Wedding Dresses for Every Body Type

Today I hosted a bridal segment for Access Hollywood and it was so much fun selecting looks for Real Brides of all shapes and sizes. My wedding dress experience was a nightmare turned fairytayle (more on that here) so I know the struggle that comes with wedding dress shopping!!!

Since I styled 5 brides with completely different body shapes and an honorary bridesmaid, I wanted to share my tips below for each body type. You can also shop the looks from the segment!! P

Plus-Size Bride

David’s Bridal

This beautiful sheath dress was worn by my plus-size bride Amy during the segment and she absolutely killed it! I think many curvier women are often told to wear dresses that hide their figure rather than flatter it. This minimal dress flatters her feminine shape! This dress is $150, and available in sizes 0-18!

Petite Bride

ModCloth

My petite bride Roshni is having an Indian wedding but loves a white wedding dress and said if she wasn’t having a traditional Indian wedding, she would want something very bohemian. This dress looked so beautiful on her! If you are a petite bride, do not feel like you can’t wear a long dress or something with a lot of fabric and lace, the trick is to find a dress that is all one fabric and pattern so it elongates your frame. A deep V like this dress will do just the trick! This dress is $200 and available in sizes xxs-3x!

Busty Bride

My busty bride (haha sorry, I hate these descriptions) Kristine, has a very slim silhouette but is busty which can be a challenge for many women. Do you flaunt your cleavage on your wedding day or do you conceal it?! A very flattering shape for women who want to conceal their cleave is a strapless dress with a square neckline. This comes higher than the traditional sweetheart neckline and is very cool and modern. This a-line shape also had more weight to her bottom half giving her more of an hourglass figure as opposed to an inverted triangle. This dress is so beautiful and I love the deconstructed bow! It is $250 and available in sizes 0-16!

Hourglass Bride

David’s Bridal

If you’re an hourglass bride you can really wear whatever silhouette you love, it’s just a matter of preference! Traditionally mermaid or trumpet gowns are very popular when showing off those J.Lo like curves! Another great silhouette is a sheath dress. I love this one from David’s Bridal because the draped skirt and sweat heart neckline accentuate her figure and the off the shoulder sleeve is so feminine and very in style. This dress is $200 and is available in sizes 0-26 and 0-14P.

Tall/Lean Bride

BHLDN

My friend Kylie is getting married next May in Mexico and when I saw this BHLDN dress I knew it would look amazing on her! Kylie is tall (5’10”) and very lean. This skimming sheath dress flatters her figure and gives her more shape. Tall women sometimes struggle with lengths of their weddings dress (it’s something I had a hard time with) but a great way to show off those long legs is with a high slit! This dress looks almost identical to the one that Meghan Markle wore for her reception!! Yes, you can look like a princess on your wedding day, too! The dress is $220 and available in sizes 0-16. It also comes in other colors, black, navy, emerald, and bourdeaux to name a few, making it a great options for a very chic bridesmaid dress.

Bridesmaid

BHLDN

Finding bridesmaids dresses can be just as challenging as finding a wedding dress. While there are a lot of great options, it is not one style fits all! The current bridesmaids trend is to have chic coordinated looks rather than matching dresses. I would choose a color and fabric and then ask your bridesmaids to choose their silhouette. For example, I asked Tiona what style she preferred to wear and she said a dress thats comfortable with sleeves! This dress is $198 and is available in sizes 0-26! You can see some matching styles below!

Hope this guide helped you! xoxo Kristina

Wow; fantastic advice. I was body shamed several times at bridal shops just when being a bridesmaid. Even had two shops make comments that they didn’t / couldn’t / wouldn’t be able to fit a dress for me. One was so rude as to say we don’t serve customers your size as I walked in the door. (My words above; they were crewel) Later when I got married I did my own as I did a destination small wedding. Thanks for getting the word out there, it wasn’t out there for me when I needed it. So inspiring ❤️
