You know what’s always in style? Red lipstick. It’s classic. It’s sexy. It’s sophisticated. It’s dramatic. It’s cool. AND it’s really not that big of a deal. I hear so many women say, “omg I could never wear red lipstick” or “red lipstick is just too much for me.” Really? Why?
I think there is some idea that red lipstick is reserved for a grand night, paired with an extravagant dress when in reality, sometimes a red lip paired with a white tee and jeans does the trick.
I’ve always loved wearing a bold lip and red is such a staple for me when I want to add an extra oomph without trying too hard. I do find that when I wear red lipstick I try to keep the rest of my makeup pretty simple. Normally, I just add a simple cat eye to highlight my eyes without adding too much color or fuss.
There’s an art to finding the right shade of red and I’m pretty sure I’ve mastered it, for me at least. I have a few colors I swear by so I wanted to share.
My Favorite Red Lipsticks
NARS Dragon Girl — HANDS DOWN my favorite red color, EVER. Seriously, I am so obsessed with it. It’s the perfect bright red with a slight pink tone. More of a cherry red. It’s beautiful and I love that it’s a thick lip pencil because when you’re wearing red you definitely want to line your lips and this does both!!!
Charlotte Tilbury ‘So Marilyn’ — This red is beautiful. It’s a deeper red and I use it with the LIP CHEAT liner ‘Kiss n’ Tell.’
Ardell Matte Whipped in ‘Red my Mind’ — I love this color red and it will really stay on all day long. I do find matte liquid lipsticks to be a bit drying but this one has a nice balance. I sometimes add some chapstick on top and even when I do, the color does not smudge!
Buxom Plumpline Lipliner in ‘Orange red’ — I love that this color has a bit more of an orange hue. It’s that perfect color you want on your summer vacation when you have that golden glow! I also really like that this is a lip liner/lipstick duo.
