#NYFWM Designer Spotlight: Michael Bastian

New York Fashion Week Men’s is on in full storm and I’m lusting over Michael Bastian’s presentation.  Besides loving his entire aesthetic, there are 3 reasons why I love MB (I don’t think anyone calls him that, so why not be the first).

1. He comes from the retail world & was the Men’s Director of Fashion for Bergdorf Goodman for 5 years.
2. He’s a master of brand collaborations.  He collaborated with GANT which is where I was first introduced to him.  I loved his collection for GANT and own some of the menswear pieces myself.  Then, one day I was shopping for my little brother and stumbled upon his collaboration for UNIQLO.  I bought my brother some of the polos that fit him perfectly, were so affordable and looked very cool.
3. He’s a total prepster.  I think it’s the east coast girl in me, but I love a little preppy.  Michael Bastian always does preppy but he does it in a very approachable, modern way that is cool and sophisticated but not too mature.

I love all of the looks in presentation but the four above are my favorites.  I  am obsessing over his usage of turtlenecks.  Did you watch my “How to Wear a Turtleneck” tutorial?  His layering is exactly what I was referencing and I think you can take notes from the images above and apply it to your current wardrobe.  I also love that even though his looks are very layered, they are also very simple.  There’s normally just one or two stand out pieces in each of the looks, which makes his styling interesting but not over the top.
