The Monochromatic Trend has been popular for many seasons now. For those of you that don’t know what it means, Monochromatic Dressing, is when you are wearing multiple pieces of clothing that are all the same color, with variations in different shades or temperatures. I decided to focus on this trend for a video and post because I love the look and think even when really dressed down, it still looks stylish, cool and effortless. The streamlined look also makes you look taller * bonus point! If you checked out my recent post on NYFW you’ll see that this trend is here to stay, so it’s time you got it right!
Monochromatic Style Tips:
- Make sure to layer! The more layers, the more options you have for showing you are rocking the look. An easy way to layer is to add a third piece. This can be a sweater or sweatshirt like I added in the above looks. You can also layer a jacket or layer different lengths and styles of shirts. For instance, a t-shirt underneath the button-down.
- Try to add different patterns and textures. This gives more depth to your outfit and it looks more balanced instead of too matchy matchy. I love playing with patterns! This automatically makes the outfit more interesting. Gingham or checkered patterns are great and easy to mix in.
- Opt for new neautral colors like burgundy and olive green instead of the expected white or black. I also love an all navy look. Start with jeans, add a navy tee shirt on and then a chambray shirt. Layer it with a denim jacket and you have a very badass Canadian Tuxedo.
