KTLA 2019 Trends to Try for the New Year

Fashion Trends to Try in the New Year With Style Expert Kristina Zias

Happy New Year!  I am starting off the year hosting a fashion segment for KTLA on 2019 Trends for Every Body Type and I couldn’t be more excited!  Whether you are looking to incorporate new pieces into your wardrobe, or simply want to be in the know, below are some of the most popular trends you’ll be seeing all year long.

2019 Fashion Trends

Suiting for Women:

Suiting for women is no longer just for the boardroom.  Whether you work in a corporate environment, are a student or a stay at home mom, bring out your inner fashionista and rock a suit like the power player that you are!  Look for unstructured suits in bold colors or fun patterns to make a “serious” look a little bit more laid back.

Pink & Red Color Combo:

One of my absolute favorite color combos is pink and red and I am so happy they are back on trend for 2019 because this color play looks beautiful on every skin tone!  Be bold in 2019 and do not be afraid to wear bright colors!  When rocking this trend, I say the brighter the better!  Just remember to pair the darker color on the bottom!  How cute would this bright pink sweater and red pants be for Valentine’s Day?!

Monochromatic Neutrals:

Monochromatic dressing is always incredibly chic!  The key is to choose pieces in the same color family and play with fabrics and textures.  I love a chunky knit with structured pants.  You can also add accessories in the same color family that incorporates a print.  Leopard is a great addition to any monochromatic look because it’s in the same color family!

Utility Jumpsuits

Utility jumpsuits are everywhere in 2019 and they bring a mega cool factor!  They may seem a bit intimidating to pull off at first but they’re actually very easy to wear because there really is no wrong way.  You can dress them up with heels or pair them with sneakers.  You can also wear them form-fitting or oversized, there are no rules!

Elevated Fringe

When you think of fringe you normally think of boho styles that can be reserved for music festivals, but in 2019 we are seeing formal and elevated fringe.  A nod to the flapper styles of the ’20s, the best way to wear formal fringe is with elegant, body con dresses.  You want to make sure the fringe highlights your figure instead of hiding it!

Hopefully not just a trend, my favorite fashion movement is size inclusivity.  As a curvy size 14 woman, I know what it’s like to walk into a store and not be able to find my size.  It’s an awful feeling and experiences but there is so much progress being made and I am so excited to share some brands that I think are really making an effort to be more size inclusive.

Loft — Now offers sizes 16-26!  They are my go-to for elevated basics like luxe sweaters and beautiful blouses.

Eloquii — One of my favorite plus-size brands, Eloquii offers super fun, trendy pieces and 9-5 suiting for women sizes 14-28.

Asos — Another go-to brand for trendy pieces, Asos has everything from suiting to athleisure to sequins galore AND 2-day shipping!

Anthropologie —  Anthropologie is working to make their styles more size inclusive and recently extended their sizing to a 16 for many items.
