Best Fitting Jeans For Men

men's jeans fit guide

Men’s denim shopping can be extremely overwhelming.  You walk into a department store and there are tons of different brands and each one has several different cuts.  You’re probably ready to turn around and walk out, BUT, it really shouldn’t be that difficult.  First things first, you need to learn how your jeans should fit.  If you didn’t already watch my video, watch it.

To summarize, there are 4 parts things you need to pay attention to when denim shopping:

the waist, seat, legs, and length.

The Waist:  Jeans should sit snuggly yet comfortably around your hip bones and not any lower or higher.  Now just because you wear a size 32 in one brand, does not mean you are the same size in every brand.  Many denim styles now contain lycra in them and the more lycra in a jean, the more the comfortable they generally are, BUT, the more they stretch out.  Beware of pants that contain more than 2% of lycra, you might need to size down.  Also, note, if your jeans are a little loose around the waist and you’re thinking, “it’s okay, I always wear a belt.” Just stop.  Go down a size, this means they are too big.  DUH.

The Seat: Booty. Booty. Booty.  Are you uncomfortable?  Sorry!  The seat means your butt and you want it to look good, right?!  If it looks like you have a bunch of bagginess going on in your butt they are too big and/or you need to do more squats.  If you look like Kim Kardashian in your jeans, they are too tight.  Simple.

The Legs: I think every guy should be rocking slim straight jeans.  They are not too baggy and they are not too tight.  You should be able to comfortable grab the sides of your jeans without having too much extra fabric.  Many guys, my boyfriend included, think that in order to be comfortable your jeans should be baggy.  NOT TRUE.  You might be extra comfy but you also look like a slob.

The Length: Most premium denim runs in a 34″ inseam so unless you are very tall, chances are you will have to tailor your jeans.  Now don’t be discouraged!  Tailoring the length is quick, painless and many times, free.  Hi, Nordstrom!  You absolutely want to tailor your jeans if they are too long!  Your jeans should sit around your the top of your shoe and should have at least one full break.  Please note that the slimmer your jeans are, the less foot/shoe they will cover.  If you aren’t sure if you should tailor your jeans or not, my suggestion is to go home, wear them a few times, wash and dry them once and then tailor them if need be.  Sometimes jeans shrink up 1/4 when you wash them.

Below are my favorite premium denim brands and fits that I truly think will fit every guy and look great.  100% of my clients have at least one of these fits if not more in their closets right now.
