Pleated skirts were shown everywhere on the Fall 2016 Runways. From metallic minis to leather middies, these skirts are making a serious comeback. I love the style because pleated skirt have the best movement, and nothing says feminity like the power of the twirl. Please check out that movement in my photo above, cue hair flip. I love a skirt that you can play with, and pleated skirts are definitely up for the fun. This is a s
The issue with pleated skirts? They are not necessarily the most flattering. Generally, pleats add volume and weight, not ideal for someone who wants to look longer and leaner. BUT, that does not mean you can’t wear a pleated skirt. My tips for mastering this style?
- Add a belt and tuck in your shirt. You want to show off you waist and by cinching it with a belt, you create an illusion of a smaller waist. Since I am definitely no skinny minny, I make sure to use this trick whenever wearing a pleated skirt.
- Make sure the skirt sits at the smallest part of your waist. You do not want a skirt that lays on your hips, especially if you are trying to hide a tummy. You also don’t want a skirt that cuts you mid stomach. If it sits at the smallest part of your waist then your waist will be the spotlight and the pleats will hide your love handles.
- Pleats can be worn regardless of your size or height. If you are shorter and worry about wearing a longer skirt, don’t be! Lucky for you the pleats can actually elongate your body, pair them with some heels to give you some extra height! ALSO, don’t discount the pleated mini.
In this look, I paired the skirt with a vertical striped top to make me taller and leaner than I am! I love vertical stripes because they are unexpected and the colors in this top had me lusting for fall.
Pleated skirts are a must have trend for fall. Depending on what type of pleated skirt you get it can be a staple item that you wear multiple ways and on multiple occasions. I can’t wait for the weather to cool down a bit more to pair my pleated skirts with turtlenecks and mary janes!
